Trail Review: Iron Mountain, Hot Springs, AR

I almost skipped this one. Trailforks didn't make it look all that sexy. But the aforementioned Dudes in the Parking Lot said that THIS is where they ride when they have a day off. Well, alrighty then.

It looked deceptively close to where I was camped. Just across the lake. Turns out getting to that side of the lake took about 40 minutes. But hot damn, was it worth it!

Same helmet. Same smile. Different singletrack. I swear.

The trails were very similar to the ones in Hot Springs - all bench cut, with lots of vegetation and trees adding to the mystery. But it felt so much more remote than it was. I only saw one other group of people - two moms hiking with kids. From the trail, I could look across Degray Lake and see my campsite.

These trails weren't as well marked as the Hot Springs trails, but routefinding wasn't an issue with the help of Trailforks. I wish I had more energy to ride more of these trails, but my legs were toast after 12 miles. I had hoped to be back to ride the rest before having to leave the area, but the weather did not cooperate. If I ever make it back to Hot Springs, this area is #1 on my places to go ride again.

Tailgate hydration.

Favorite trail: Joe's Garage (on recommendation from aforementioned Dudes in the Parking Lot)
